Norwegian Red Cross
The Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement came into existence in response to acute humanitarian needs caused by war, conflict and disasters. The main objective of the Norwegian Red Cross' international operations is to prevent and alleviate human suffering and degradation by providing help to victims of armed conflict and disasters. The purpose is to protect life and improve health, ensure respect for human values and promote understanding between all peoples regardless of sex, political, ethnic, religious or social background.

Main Objectives
The Norwegian Red Cross has five main objectives for its international operations:
- To help victims of war, conflicts and disasters and assist vulnerable groups in countries that are in a rehabilitation phase in the aftermath of conflict or disaster
- Contribute to increased international disaster preparedness and improve international coordination of emergency aid
- Increase the understanding and respect for international humanitarian law
- Strengthen the International Red Cross Movement through cooperating with and assisting the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
- Contribute to the development of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through active cooperation with other donor organizations and the International Red Cross
